What is Home Sleep Testing?

Home Sleep Testing (HST) is used by sleep specialists to diagnose disturbed breathing patterns during sleep commonly known as “sleep apnea.” Unlike a traditional in-lab sleep test (or polysomnogram) used to diagnose a multitude of sleep disturbances, Home Sleep Testing can only diagnose sleep disordered breathing.

How Does HST Work?

Home Sleep Testing is simple. It records your breathing efforts while you sleep from sensors near your nose and an elastic belt around your chest. Your blood oxygen levels and pulse are monitored by a sensor on your fingertip. The procedure is painless, and placement of the belts and sensors is quick and easy. The set up will be demonstrated by a healthcare professional before you leave the office, and should you have any questions, our staff is a phone call away to help guide you.

In the morning, simply return the device, and results will be available to you within a few days. If positive, a number of treatment options will be reviewed with you and the best option will be prescribed.
